Bridge
Students in the digital age are increasingly confronted with news overload, biased content, and political narratives, challenging their ability to distinguish fact from manipulation. As misinformation spreads and ideological divides become more entrenched, social cohesion and democratic stability are increasingly under threat. In such a polarized society, schools play a fundamental role in shaping a new generation of engaged, informed citizens. Yet, teachers often lack the appropriate training to address complex, sensitive topics and facilitate constructive dialogue on them.
The main goal of BRIDGE is to empower teachers with the skills and confidence to moderate debates on sensitive political and societal topics while improving students’ ability to critically assess information and engage in democratic dialogue.
By integrating non-violent communication and inclusive education strategies, the project strengthens critical thinking, media literacy, and civic engagement in students.
Through a collaboration between Molinos de Viento (Netherlands), Europass Teacher Academy (Italy) and two secondary schools from Spain and Germany, BRIDGE will develop open, accessible learning materials and methods that will be tested in real-world settings and disseminated to a wider community of educators.
Impact
For teachers
Teachers will gain expertise in non-violent communication and inclusive education strategies, fostering a classroom environment in which conversations and debates on complex, sensitive political and societal issues can be handled appropriately. This will multiply the opportunities to foster critical thinking, promote tolerance, and enhance civic engagement in schools.
For students
Secondary school students will improve their media literacy, critical thinking, and discussion skills. More specifically, they will learn how to identify misinformation and critically assess news and political narratives, allowing them to engage in more constructive discussions. As a result, schools will become safer spaces for debate, preparing students for a more active and responsible participation in society.
For wider education communities
Beyond offering learning opportunities for teachers and students directly involved in the project, project results will be made accessible for a wider community of educators, school professionals and policymakers.
